3-D Scans May Predict Metabolic Syndrome in Adults and Activity Levels in Children

Shape Up! Studies is mentioned in a recent Clinical Advisor article: 3-D Scans May Predict Metabolic Syndrome in Adults and Activity Levels in Children by Jeanelle Jacobs. The article discusses the use of 3-DO imaging in posters presented at ObesityWeek® 2021, referencing SRL’s poster “3-Dimensional optical imaging body shape improves the prediction of metabolic syndrome over body mass index.” This study assessed the body shape of hundreds of adults using Styku S100 scanner and compared methods of predicting metabolic syndrome based on National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) guidelines.

Jonathan Bennett, lead author and one of our PhD students, is quoted saying, “Body shape provides an indirect measure of body fatness that may improve the identification of metabolic syndrome in adults.”
